THE FEAR PROJECT

July 20, 2011

A little while back I did some photos at the Kaufman Arts Studio for the Studio Players production of the Fear Project.
Produced by The Studio Players in partnership with The MT Space and Flush Ink Productions.
Co-created by Jessalyn Broadfoot, Kay’la Fraser, Jewels Krauss, Janice Lee, Steph-Marie Szenasi, and Kalene Ticknor.

Here’s the information posted at the facebook page.
An experiment in magic-realist theatre, ‘The Fear Project’ investigates a series of fears that many women identify with in a western society. Social expectations of physical attractiveness, heterosexuality, and motherhood are so prevalent in a culture wrought with conservative ideology; it is only when the fear of adhering to these social expectations is identified within and later embraced, that we can truly feel what it means to be free. Featuring a cast of six women, ‘The Fear Project’ is at times very real, at others surreal – but above all, call it theatre for social change.
Time, Wednesday, August 10 at 8:00pm – August 11 at 10:00pm
Location, Kaufman Arts Studio and Temple Studios
Created By, Steph-Marie Szenasi, Jewels Krauss
Director: Nicholas Walsh
Assistant Director: Paddy Gillard-Bentley
Text Development: Gary Kirkham

This video was captured at the April 2nd, Mayor’s Forum Series on Building Resilient Communities.
I ran two tape based cameras, one with a patch from the mixer, oddly the hand held mic wasn’t on that feed!
I ended up with 3 hours of tape from each camera. After the shoot I downloaded the clips and laid them out on a timeline with two video tracks so that the tracks were closely synced one above the other, then I started a new sequence and started pasting segments into the new timeline, I did this several times and ended up with 4 or 5 segments with varying duration and content.
This edit was done in about 10 to 13 hours including lifting graphics from webpages and creating titles and searching for music (what music!)
The resulting clip is below in it’s imperfection! I hope you enjoy it.

You’re invited to join in the Mayor’s Forum Series on Building Resilient Communities, an initiative hosted by: * City of Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran, and * TransitionKW, our local Transition Town initiative, along with other partners.

May 7, June 18 9:00 am — 4:30 pm Lunch included

I’ve always enjoyed food and have always connected health and well being with food even though sometimes I just eat food because it feels good!
This past week I had the opportunity to photograph the food being prepared for Glori Beldorai’s event “The Pure Living Series” at Whispers in Elora, July 7, 2010.

London custom kitchen

June 29, 2010

I’ve been busy shooting video for a lecture series so it was good to get back to shooting some nice mill work again! The kitchen and washroom cabinets were built by Casey’s Creative Kitchens in a new custom home in Kilworth Ontario. The owner did the contracting himself and has built a number of custom homes. I understand he is a talented trim carpenter so it makes sense he chose Casey’s to build his kitchen knowing what great craftsmanship and value they provide.
Check out the shots, as usual I used lots of electronic flash but I also used the available light to accent the images, there is a bit of Photoshop trickery (my camera is not in the mirror in the washroom shot!) but hopefully you can’t tell where! Let me know if you can!!

I had the good fortune to go to Woodbridge and shoot Robert Micheals music studio and kitchen renovation for Canadian Homes and Cottages.
The neat thing about this is he did it all himself with minimal experience and help from the internet , friends and neighbors.
Below are a couple of photos from that shoot.

I recently did the headshots for 3 productions that K-W Youth Theatre is putting on.
We managed to get about 125 shots done in four shoots each shoot taking about 90 minutes with set up.
It was super organized and the kids were great. Here are a few samples from those shoots.

I taped the production of Macbeth by Kitchener-Waterloo Youth Theatre in December. 3 cameras were used, 2 by volunteers and I took the floor camera. To mic the show I hung two shotgun mics above the stage and got a feed off the sound board.
I used the multicamera monitor in Adobe Premiere CS3 for editing and created the menu in Encore. Learned a ton and got some practice tweaking sound, camera angles and the timeline.

The photography required for UTRCA were quite informal and tended toward journalism, they plan to use and share these photos as a resource for joint projects, promotion and news letters.

These 2 homes are both located on the shores of Lake Huron, they were designed and built by Oke Woodsmith.

The thing that is so impressive about these homes is in spite the restrictions that Oke Woodsmith had to work around as far as zoning, lot widths, set backs and such they were still walk away with “Ontario Home Builders Association” awards in two categories for both of these projects! Having great photos didn’t hurt either (:

A while back I shot at the Husky Injection Molding plant in Bolton Ontario. I shot the boardroom in such a manner that it was easy to insert an image onto the projection screen. Since I had done the shots of the bottles and preforms individualy I stitched together 4 of those shots to make the image for the projection screen, I then grabbed the Husky logo from their website, added that and presto a boardroom meeting!

Dancing in the park!

August 26, 2009

This summer I had the pleasure of working with Tanya Williams to create images promoting her unique dance classes. The style of dance is called contact dance and has roots in Aikido, the martial art that works with the centre of gravity of yourself and your partner.

You want it when?

September 23, 2009

This last shoot was impossible as deadlines go. I booked Sunday evening to shoot so I could deliver the finished retouched file for Monday’s deadline. So I knew there would be retouching.

Well Monday came and went and I was able to get onto the construction site to take photos Tuesday for our extended deadline of Wednesday morning.

My jaw did actually drop in disbelief at what I had to work with… well see the photos.  the Photoshop work took about 3 hours and yes I was rushing!

Promoting the arts in K-W!

This summer I was asked by the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority to create a 4 or 5 minute video to promote The Oxford Children’s Water Festival.

I finally managed to get away for a few days and do some shooting on the Bruce Peninsula. The highlight was Devil’s Monument… see the Devil!
